Craftsman Goes All Out Building His Dream Country Cabin

This incredible country cabin is what happens when a talented craftsman goes all out building his own dream retreat. Created by Shaun and Tegan using timber they rescued and milled themselves, this unique relocatable cabin is packed with extraordinary craftsmanship, natural materials and one-of-a-kind design details.

Shaun has spent his career as a builder bringing other people's ideas to life, but with this project he and Tegan had the chance to create something entirely for themselves. Around 40 logs that were destined to be burned were rescued, brought home and milled into timber that now features throughout the cabin, from the exposed structure and oversized beams to beautiful live-edge cabinetry and furniture.

Together, Shaun and Tegan have created a home that reflects both of their personalities. Shaun's craftsmanship and love of timber can be seen everywhere, while Tegan has played a huge part in shaping the overall feel of the cabin, from the natural finishes and interior details through to the beautiful landscaping that surrounds it.

Set amongst 60 acres of lush countryside and rainforest, the cabin feels completely at home in its surroundings, despite being cleverly designed so that it can actually be transported in multiple sections. Inside, timber is everywhere, balanced beautifully with stone, cork and other natural materials. There's a full kitchen, downstairs bedroom, dramatic bathroom, hidden storage and laundry, along with an incredibly spacious lift-off bedroom loft upstairs.

Outside, the cabin is surrounded by native planting, expansive decking, an impressive suspended fire pit and one of the most extraordinary outdoor bathing areas we've seen.

For now, Shaun and Tegan are sharing the cabin with guests, but ultimately this labour of love is destined to become their own home. It's a wonderful example of what can happen when years of building experience, imagination and a shared love of natural materials all come together in one very special country cabin.
