Tiny House

The Tip Truck Tiny House

In the world of tiny homes, there’s no shortage of innovation. But every now and then, we come across a build that’s truly unlike anything we’ve seen before. This ultra-tiny house in Australia is just 8 square metres (86 square feet) in size, and it’s been brilliantly designed to sit on the back of a working tip truck. It’s mobile, it’s functional, and it’s packed with clever design ideas that make the most of every centimetre of space.

A Full-Time Home in Just 8m²

You might think that living in 8 square metres would be impossible. But for Steve and Jade, this tiny house has everything they need to live and work full-time while travelling around Australia.

Inside the home, you’ll find a surprisingly spacious kitchen area, clever storage throughout, a cosy sleeping space, a composting toilet, and not one but two showers. The tall roofline adds volume and light to the space, making it feel far larger than the footprint suggests.

Every element has been purposefully designed to support their lifestyle on the road. It’s a great example of how thoughtful design can overcome the limitations of size.

A House on a Tip Truck? Yes, and It Works

What makes this home especially unique is that it was built to sit on the back of Steve’s work tip truck. During the day, the truck is used for his job as a builder, carrying tools and materials to worksites. When it’s time to move, the tray tips up and a winch is used to pull the house onto the back. It’s a clever, multi-functional solution that means their home can travel almost anywhere they need to go.

This ultra-tiny house isn’t just an RV alternative. It’s a fully off-grid, functional home that allows Steve and Jade to chase the sun and live a minimalist, adventurous lifestyle on their own terms.

Living and Working on the Road

Steve and Jade are a creative, self-sufficient couple who dreamed of building a life that allowed them to explore, create, and stay mobile. Steve continues his work as a travelling builder, while Jade works remotely as both an artist and a tattooist. The freedom to move and the ability to earn an income while travelling means they’re not just surviving in this tiny space. They’re thriving.

Their lifestyle shows that tiny house living doesn’t have to mean compromise. With smart design, creativity, and a little bit of courage, it can be a gateway to a richer, more intentional life.

A New Kind of Tiny House

This project pushes the boundaries of what a tiny house on wheels can be. It's not built on a trailer or mounted to a van. It’s designed to tip, travel, and transform. It's a mobile tiny house like no other and a shining example of Australian ingenuity.

Whether you're a fan of alternative housing, a builder looking for new ideas, or someone dreaming of life on the road, this tiny house is guaranteed to inspire. Watch the full tour now to see how Steve and Jade made their dream of mobile living a reality using the back of a tip truck as the foundation for their home.
