She Built Her Tiny House as a Love Letter to Herself
There are some homes that feel as though they have been carefully shaped around the person who lives within them. Katie’s tiny house in Melbourne is one of those very special places.
After years of dreaming about tiny house living, Katie found a shell and slowly began transforming it into a home that truly reflected who she is. Over time, and with a lot of determination, creativity and help from the people around her, she has created a space that is bright, open, calming and deeply personal.
Inside, the home has a beautiful softness to it. White textured walls help to create a light, spacious feeling, while salvaged timber adds warmth and character throughout. The layout has been designed to keep the space open and functional, with a central kitchen and breakfast bar, a compact office tucked beneath the walkway, generous pantry storage, a cozy lounge, and a loft bedroom that also doubles as a movie space for quiet nights in and slumber parties with friends.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this home is the way Katie has designed it around the realities of how she lives. With ADHD, she knew she needed a space that was practical, accessible and forgiving. There is no deep storage, no complicated transforming furniture, and rounded corners help to make the home easier and more comfortable to move through. Rather than designing for resale, Katie has designed for herself, and that is what makes this tiny house feel so wonderfully authentic.
The bathroom is another standout feature, with a curved wall, soft green tiles, brass details and a sense of calm that carries through from the rest of the home. Outside, Katie has extended her living space into the garden, creating a beautiful little sanctuary around the tiny house with a wellness deck, cold plunge, outdoor shower, kitchen garden and even a pizza oven area.
For Katie, this tiny home has become much more than shelter. It has been a place to recover, to create, to heal and to reconnect with herself. Through injuries, surgeries, life changes and the simple challenge of learning to slow down, the house has become a deeply meaningful space. In her own words, it is “a love letter to herself.”
What makes this tiny house so inspiring is not only the clever DIY, the warmth of the design or the beauty of the setting, but the reminder
that a home can be a powerful act of care. It can be a place that supports us, reflects us, and gives us the space we need to become more
ourselves.
