20ft Shipping Container Home Built for Under $15k

This incredible 20ft shipping container home was built for an astounding budget of less that CA$15,000. Packed full of innovative small space design ideas and filled with character, this home was built as a DIY project, which enabled the container house to be completed at such a low budget.

The container house was built by Lance after the tragic loss of both his best friend and his mother brought him back to his home province of British Columbia. Needing a place to live and not wanting to rejoin the rat race, Lance decided that a tiny house was the way to go as it would allow him to live simply, reduce his expenses and begin to live a life of his choosing. He decided that a shipping container conversion would be the best option for him and he began the process of building his new tiny home.

Within the footprint of the 20ft container home is everything that Lance needs. There’s a bed, kitchen, bathroom and loads of extra storage space. For lance though, this container house is more than just a home. It’s a place of healing, of recovery and of self discovery. A place where he can learn to be himself and follow his heart towards a meaningful life that he desires.

Part of this has been leaving his old job in Alberta behind him and instead focusing on art and creative endeavours. The low cost of his container house build and reduced cost of living means that he is now able to work only part time and he supplements his income by creating art in the form of glow-in-the-dark hula hoops, and also selling prints from his artist friends. You can find out more about Lance, his art and his life on his Instagram Page.
