I have made to decision to have nothing in my walls except framing and insulation – because hopefully I can get to future issues or extend without having to take house apart. Water and gas is mainly hidden behind cabinetry, 12V cabling is hidden under worktops, under trailer, and a short run is in conduit. Designing the house with all plumbing and most power in one end of house helped.

Hi Dea, I am about to start building a tiny house, and teach woodcarving amongst doing other things…I have a lot of tools and wood, benches etc etc. So I have invested in a 20ft shipping container with doors at each end, which I can then fit a partition wall to if necessary to give me part workshop, part storage or sleepout or whatever i choose, with a little insulation to keep it cosy. Shipping containers can be easily moved as long as there is access for a hiab of similar, and of course i can use the extra roof area to harvest water off (always a good idea to fit a pitched roof of some sort to protect metal top. Thats my solution anyway!

I will be building soon, have to sell up first – but shouldn’t take long (to sell that is).

I have been told by a friend who lives in one that they are impossible to cool down in summer, and of course we all insist on breathing out moist warm air, which can turn to condensation in cold weather as soon as it hits cold surface….

I presume a steel frame and trailer works a bit like a faraday cage and actually protects you from electromagnetics….mmmm wonder if it messes up mobile coverage as I will need mobile interenet dongle to do paying work….I have access to faraday cage so will try it out!

Hi all, I’m looking at building the tiny house, maybe 2, one for my 19 year old and one for me as the best possible way for securing our futures. I’ve got to sell existing house in order to pay for both, and will have a chunk left over to put into land. Dargaville etc has good low prices, but its also in the Kaipara district, which already has larger than normal rates bills due to wastewater debts….Could become a problem. I’m interested in the group buy concept to allow better buying power, also to do the community living up to a point.I think I’m kinda envisaging (and this is just my dream for me at present – one has to start somewhere!) a large roof on legs near tiny house, with shipping container under for overspill storage, extra batteries for wind turbine etc. as I burn up in the sun in winter, and one can live mostly outside up here – also gives good roof acreage for water harvesting plus would give me studio space. Could be available for others to use too. just throwing ideas in….
