Every now and then you come across a real Tiny House gem. Such is the case with the home of Cori and Patrick, who have constructed their wonderful Tiny Home on wheels almost entirely from recycled materials. The couple moved from the United States to New Zealand several years ago. Big fans of the Tiny House movement, they set about constructing their very own home on wheels to begin their new life together.

TINY RECYCLED HOUSE (7 of 13)

The construction industry is one of the most wasteful in the world. In fact, here in New Zealand roughly half of the waste that goes to landfill comes from the construction industry. Gabriella Grace was only 18 years old when she built her very own tiny house on wheels together with her father as part of a project for her final year of school. Now 20 years old, she has found an incredible spot for her home in New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington.

Living In A Lotus Belle Tent

When I was a teenager I had a dream of living in a teepee in the forest. Now, I get to live something very close to that dream. Over the last two months we have been flat out finishing the Belle tent and getting everything ready for me to move in. I’m happy to say that I’m now living in the tent full time and it’s incredible! The Lotus will be my home while I finish building the Tiny House.

I decided to move into the Lotus tent because it allowed me to escape the rent trap and dedicate more time and resources into the construction of my tiny house. I also wanted to showcase another really great concept of alternative, downsized living. Low-Cost Survival Shelter Earthship

Because of their shape and the strength of the materials they are made from, Earthships can be built as incredibly robust survival shelters. This example is currently under construction in Te Puke (New Zealand), where local organisation Fruit of the Pacific is helping to teach seasonal kiwifruit workers from Vanuatu, how to construct these survival shelter Earthships. Many of the workers were affected by Cyclone Pam, which tragically killed 24 people in Vanuatu and left thousands without homes. Read more
